AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free tax preparation assistance to anyone. If you are 50+ years old and cannot afford a tax preparation service, we were made especially for you. Our team of IRS-certified volunteers is happy to assist you.

AARP Tax-Aide KS24 (part of AARP Foundation Tax-Aide) serves the northeast Kansas counties of Douglas, Franklin & Jefferson, with free income tax sites in Baldwin City, Lawrence, Oskaloosa and Ottawa.

There is no fee and AARP membership is not required.


Lawrence Tax Site has moved

The Lawrence tax site has relocated to First Baptist Church at 1330 Kasold Dr. Specifically, we will be preparing taxes in the Northeast portion of the church; in their gymnasium.

We appreciate your patience as we adapt to this new space and experience.


Requirements for Tax Appointments

1.  If you haven’t made your appointment, call your tax site to make an appointment.  See below for specific tax site info.

2.  If you typically receive a brokerage statement or a K-1 form, please do not schedule your appointment for before March 1st.  Bring ALL pages of your brokerage statement.

3.  Complete all pages of the Intake/Interview & Quality Review Sheet. Use last year’s form for guidance.  Please ask a friend or family member for assistance.

4.  Bring your Photo ID for both taxpayer & spouse.

5.  Bring proof of Social Security number for taxpayer, spouse & all dependents – Your Social Security statement, SSA-1099 is acceptable proof.  Original cards are required for dependents.

6.  Bring last year’s entire tax packet.

7.  Bring your checkbook or documentation that verifies your bank direct deposit information, including bank routing and account numbers.

8.  For claiming Homestead, bring your Property Tax statement showing the amount billed for 2023.

9.  If you plan to itemize federal or Kansas deductions, please complete the Itemized Deduction Worksheet to summarize your deductions.  We cannot accept all of your receipts, letters, etc.  

10.  If you have self-employment income, please complete the Self-Employment Worksheet to summarize your income and expenses.  We cannot accept all of your receipts, ledgers, etc.  (This worksheet is available at all of our sites and by clicking on any of our site links below.)

Other documents to bring if they apply to you:

– Year-end Social Security statement, Form SSA-1099 (with pink highlighting)

– All W-2 forms received

– All 1099 forms received (1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-R, 1099-B, 1099-MISC, 1099-NEC)

-Gambling income (may be shown on W2-G) AND Gambling losses

– Dependent care provider information (name, address, employer ID, Social Security number).  Also bring the amount paid for care for each dependent.

– If you received Marketplace insurance for 2023, bring your 1095-A form.  This is required to file your taxes.

Tax preparation will be on Tuesday afternoons.
